Correlation effects in carbon nanotubes

چکیده
We consider the effects of Coulomb interactions on single-wall carbon nanotubes using an on-site Hubbard interaction, u . For the ~N ,N! armchair tubes the low-energy theory is shown to be identical to a two-chain Hubbard model at half-filling, with an effective interaction uN5u/N . Umklapp scattering leads to gaps in the spectrum of charge and spin excitations which are exponentially small for large N . Above the gaps the intrinsic nanotube resistivity due to these scattering processes is linear in temperature, as observed experimentally. The presence of ‘‘d-wave’’ superconductivity in the two-chain Hubbard model away from half-filling suggests that doped armchair nanotubes might exhibit superconductivity with a purely electronic mechanism. @S0163-1829~97!50518-2#

Strong Correlation Effects in Single-wall Carbon Nanotubes
We present a overview of strong correlations in single-wall carbon nanotubes, and an introduction to the techniques used to study them theoretically. We concentrate on zig-zag nanotubes, although universality dictates that much of the theory can also be applied to armchair or chiral nanotubes. We show how interaction effects lead to exotic low energy properties and discuss future directions for...
متن کاملLongitudinal Magnetic Field Effect on Torsional Vibration of Carbon Nanotubes
Torsional dynamic analysis of carbon nanotubes under the effect of longitudinal magnetic field is carried out in the present study. Torque effect of an axial magnetic field on a carbon nanotube has been defined using Maxwell’s relation. Nonlocal governing equation and boundary conditions for carbon nanotubes are obtained by using Hamilton’s minimum energy principle. Eringen’s nonlocal stress gr...
متن کاملThe effects of suspending medium on dielectrophoretic systems for separating and sorting carbon nanotubes
The separation of two different types of multi-walled carbon nanotubes is studied in a dielectrophoresis-based microchannel system in seven different solvents as the suspending medium. A simple model was developed to predict the behavior of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes in the above mentioned system. Then, the equations of motion for the multi-walled carbon nanotubes in that system were in...
متن کاملEffects of Nanotube/Matrix Interface on Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Polymer Mechanical Properties
In this paper, experimental and Finite Element Methods have been used to determine mechanical properties of nanocomposites. Standard tensile and compression samples with 0.0, 0.15, 0.25, 0.35, 0.45, and 0.55 weight fraction of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube (MWCNT) were prepared and tested. Nanotube weight fraction was varied to investigate the effects of nanotube weight fraction on nanocomposite...
متن کاملEffects of Confinement in Carbon Nanotubes on the Performance and Lifetime of Fischer-Tropsch Iron Nano Catalysts
The effects of confinement in carbon nanotubes on Fischer-Tropsch (FT) activity, selectivity and lifetime of Carbon NanoTubes (CNTs) supported iron catalysts are reported. A method was developed to control the position of the catalytic sites on either inner or outer surface of carbon nanotubes. TEM analyses revealed that more than 80% of iron oxide particles can be controlled to be position...
متن کاملSingle Walled Carbon Nanotube Effects on Mixed Convection heat Transfer in an Enclosure: a LBM Approach
The effects of Single Walled Carbon Nanotube (SWCNT) on mixed convection in a cavity are investigated numerically. The problem is studied for different Richardson numbers (0.1-10), volume fractions of nanotubes (0-1%), and aspect ratio of the cavity (0.5-2.5) when the Grashof number is equal to 103. The volume fraction of added nanotubes to Water as base fluid are lowers than 1% to make dilute ...
